How many tractors are needed on a 50-100 acre farm?
I am interested in purchasing some farmable land. I have no idea what I would want to start farming. My landlord (also neighbor) farms the land behind me. Not sure what he plants or anything, but he is raising a few cows as well. He has 3 tractors that I have seen. Not to mention two other harvesting machines. But the tractors, there is an older Ford I think 600 or 800 series, another older Ford 3000 I believe, then he has a John Deere that is like 3 times bigger than the Fords stacked on top of each other. And his farm isn't all that big, looks about 50-100 acres. I am just curious how many tractors are really needed and what the heck he needs 3 of them for and what they might be used for. I'm curious as to know how many I'd need to purchase to start farming some land I will be purchasing soon. I would just got talk to the neighbor, but he always seems so busy and I don't want to interupt his work. So I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight.

Hi Hemi,
It depends upon the type of crop, workload, job type & size and time with simultanious handling of different equipments.
It is better to do small jobs with small tractors.
Bigger Horse power tractors are capable of doing larger & faster jobs.
I am able to handle 50 acres of land with only one tractor in standard crops.
